Opening of the INMA/OPA Outlook 2010 conference

October 22, 2009 by marek.miller

2009102110141Wolfgang Bretschko, the President of INMA Europe, and Member of the Board in Styria Medien (Austria) opened today’s conference in Liverpool. He listed main problems that newsmedia publishers are facing nowadays.

He began with a video that is perfectly showing what is going on around and why it is important for newsmedia publishers to gather on such conferences and share their experiences:

The changes shown on the video become more and more dramatic year after year, and what even deepened it was the last year’s collapse of Lehmann Brothers bank.

But at the same time, these dramatic changes give newsmedia publishers a lot of challenges. Most important question to answer during the conference and later is how publishers can deal with the changes: digitalization, transformation, current economic crisis.

bretschko1How should they deal with the changes? By inventing new techniques, and innovation. Is it enough to do the same all the time? No, newsmedia companies have to reinvent their businesses, and the ways they manage businesses and clients. And most definitely – create more added value.

INMA also decided to do it differently at this year’s conference as well. The conference is co-organized with OPA, according to the slogan: sharing ideas, inspiring change.

Wolfgang Bretschko closed his speech with a belief that newspapers will survive, there are still customers to gain from out there. But newspapers need to change.
